Making a Stylish Kitchen Wine Cellar Fit for Any Lost Altos Hills Home

Even if the bottle caps come in different colors, the collection still looks clean and organized inside this kitchen wine cellar because of the racking.

While there are plenty of ready-made wine racks in the market, kitchen wine cellars are more beautiful when designed with the space and the client’s preference in mind. In adding kitchen wine cellars to Lost Altos homes, our professional team at Custom Wine Cellars San Francisco performs precise measures to take your kitchen wine cellar to great lengths. We also work with some of the finest win cellar experts in the industry and today we’d like to show how one of our partners, Arctic Metalworks, turned a simple home pantry into a stylish kitchen custom wine cellar!

Building Custom Kitchen Wine Cellars in San Francisco

The space for the cellar was a pantry that the client needed to put to use. Since the client had been thinking of expanding their wine collection, the timing was great since they had an unused pantry, perfect for a full kitchen wine cellar.

Before starting on the project, the team set the expectations of our clients. They wanted their kitchen wine cellar built within three weeks. They envisioned a compact space with maximum storage capacity for their bottles of red, and they needed a sturdy cooling system to ensure the cellar preserved the wines perfectly.

This is how our kitchen wine cellar looks from outside it’s glass door. The is only one side of the rack. There’s another one directly facing the door.

With these expectations, their team built this gorgeous custom kitchen wine cellar, fully equipped with custom wooden racks and an advanced cooling unit.  The cooling system included a backup condenser to ensure the wines stayed in their pristine conditions even if unpredictable technical issues arose with the main condenser.

The Beauty of the Kitchen Wine Cellar: Its Custom Racks

For wine storage, Arctic Metalworks installed custom wooden wine racks. Since the clients wanted to maximize the space of their pantry turned kitchen wine cellar, it was necessary to incorporate diverse wooden wine racking styles. This made the kitchen wine cellar look more pleasing to the eyes while still being able to hold a huge volume of wines.

The custom wine rack they installed for this project had individual storage, rectangular openings, and angle display rows. The angle display rows are the highlight of the cellar because they showcase the label of the owner’s finest bottles of wine.

If you have a bigger space for your kitchen wine cellar, we can build custom kitchen wine bars inside the cellar.

A Cooling and Insulation Solution for our Kitchen Wine Cellars

While working on this project, the team urgently addressed one problem: the lack of an internal wall. Due to the kitchen cellar being between the fridge and the door to the living area, we noticed that there was no external wall for this project. It was a huge problem because it meant that there was no convenient exterior space to store the cooling system.

So, this Wine Cellar Designers Group – approved team had to devise a quick solution to this dilemma. What they came up with was tearing the drywall to make room for our cooling system. This was a huge step, and the clients were on board.

The wooden grills you see on top cover the evaporator for this kitchen wine cellar’s cooling system.

Then to ensure efficient and energy-saving cooling within the kitchen wine cellar, we needed to take some measures. First, we had to insulate the ceiling and walls. This will avoid any moisture build-up that can cause wine and storage problems.

Moisture can affect the material used for the wine racks. When your residential wine cellar is not in its ideal humidity, between 50-70%, mold can grow in your wine and affect its overall taste. So the kitchen wine cellar must maintain the lowest moisture and appropriate humidity.

They removed the drywalls and used spray foam insulation to insulate the walls. Compared to other insulation methods, spray foam was best for the client’s kitchen wine cellar since they were working with a lot of hard-to-reach gaps. Spray foam works best if your residential wine cellar space has tiny gaps that need to be filled or if you are looking for a cost-effective insulator.

Since this kitchen wine cellar was small, we opted to use a glass wine cellar door to make it feel a bit larger.

After the team insulated the walls, they installed two split cellar cooling systems. They placed the primary cooling system behind the drywall inside the kitchen custom wine cellar, and situated the second system in another room. We sealed the walls with more spray foam insulation and then put the drywall back. Then their builders covered the drywall with a coat of paint to retain the wall’s original form. It looked new, and the kitchen wine cellar was sure to regulate the best temperature to create the perfect environment for the wine to age in.

Sealing Your Kitchen Wine Cellars With the Perfect Wine Cellar Door

The last touch to maintaining the perfect temperature for your kitchen wine cellar is the perfect door. For this client, they installed a high-quality wine cellar door sealed at the bottom. It works best in keeping the set temperature inside the cellar. The door also had an automatic door guillotine which automatically locks the door.

This secured seal for the door prevents air from coming in and out of the cellar. The unpredictable climate and temperature outside the cellar can affect how well the cooling system can regulate the best temperature inside the wine cellar. This is why your cellar doors must be sealed and installed properly.
